) Born in Austria. He studied in Vienna with Gripenkerl, in Dusseldorf with Peter Jansen, in Munich with Karlsruhe and Schwenlehr. He was a member of an Austrian aristocratic family and immigrated to the United States in 1886 and gained recognition in painting landscapes and hunting scenes. He led European nobility on hunting trips in the 1890’s and began painting the Western landscape. He was commissioned by the Great Northern Railroad and painted scenery through out the West, thus contributing to the creation of Glacier National Park. He has a strong auction record, a 6” x 9” oil sold by Drummond in 1996 for $11,550, and more recently at Sotheby’s, a mural sold for $78,000
