Born in 1856 in Fluffton, In. died in NYC in 1934. De Haven studied with George Smille in NYC in 1886. He exhibited nearly 50 years with the National Academy and won numerous awards all over the country. He has pieces in the Brooklyn Institute Museum, National Gallery of Art , Butler Art Institute, and Colby College. He was affectionately nicknamed "Pop".
